Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used for over 2000 years and is an established form of healing all over the world. Acupuncture and herbs have been shown to be an excellent method of healthcare for various types of illnesses and ailments. The effective methods of TCM have been providing access for years to affordable and effective healthcare for vulnerable and impoverished communities. The ability of acupuncturists to practice medicine without many supplies makes acupuncture an especially accessible form of medicine for isolated and extremely impoverished communities. There is a demonstrated need for healing and treatment in the poorest areas of the world, including the slums of far west and east Asia, Latin America, and sub-Saharan Africa.
As as an independent nonprofit organization, HAP works in collaboration with American acupuncturists and with grassroots community organizations in countries hosting traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) clinics. HAP reaches out to acupuncturists and acupuncture students in the United States to go into areas overseas that lack healthcare access, and provides local individuals with education about TCM treatment modalities.
